We Are Together / 我们在一起 Work Summary

After Wenchuan earthquake on May 12th, we organized donations in USA. Meanwhile, in cooperation with Chinese government, we launched a 3-year psychological counseling program named “We are together” in Shifang city of Deyang, a worst-hit area of Sichuan province. 2009 is the first year of implementing this program.
 
Shifang City of Deyang in Sichuan Province was one of the worst-hit areas in Wenchuan earthquake and is also a help target for Beijing. The earthquake affected as many as 410,000 people in 14 towns of the city and these people are psychologically hurt to different degrees. HWB joined hands with Beijing and Shifang Municipal Government. After on-site psychological assistance services and investigation as well as feasibility augmentation by psychological experts, they decided to provide expertise and technical support to assist the local government to organize a professional team made up of medical staff and teachers capable of providing psychological counseling based on the existing strength of psychological recovery institutions and concerned resources. Thus, the team can provide post-disaster psychological assistance service for juvenile, teachers and medical staff, relieve or eliminate psychological obstacle or PTSD caused by the earthquake, and help them regain their normal social functions. 
 
During the project implementation in 2009, with the support of Shifang Municipal Health Bureau and Shifang People’s hospital as well as Center for Disease Control and Prevention, we appointed nine groups (60 people in total) to Shifang, worked 73 days. Nine groups fulfilled 374 working days in total. This was the unique continued (not once-and-for-all/short-term) psychological counseling program among worst-hit areas (four worst-hit areas altogether) in Sichuan recently.
